Exclusive views from Thames Quarter

Thames Tap can offer new views of Reading, never previously possible, thanks to help from developer Lochailort Investments.

Lochailort’s 22-storey Thames Quarter scheme, a joint development with M&G Real Estate, which replaces the Cooper BMW garage in King’s Meadow Road, is due for completion mid next year. It will have 315 Build to Rent/multi-family flats and currently, will be Reading’s tallest building.

Hugo Haig, managing director of Lochailort, showed us around the scheme on Monday, October 19.

Some of the flats on the lower floors are already taking shape. Off-site construction methods have helped ensure consistent quality, particularly though the use of modular bathroom pods.

Mr Haig said: “This is a hugely significant development for Reading, not only being the first purpose-built Build to Rent scheme in Reading but also the first tall building to be built since the adoption, 10 years ago, of Reading’s tall buildings policy. There are very few locations offering the same proximity to both a major railway station and town centre, and also being just yards from the Thames.”

“The quality of the apartments is fantastic and the services and benefits will include a 24-hour concierge, parcel delivery and retrieval systems, cinema, double-height rooftop work hub, dining room, residents’ lounges, gym, fantastic roof terraces – all of which will be available to every resident.”

“Developing the scheme with M&G Real Estate has enabled this to happen and makes it Reading’s first significant step into the Build to Rent market which will help provide secure, professionally-managed rental product which is open to anyone looking for accommodation that is leaps and bounds better than anything else that is currently available.”

Lochailort says the development’s state-of-the-art technology with a combined heat and power plant, in the engine room of the building, ticks many sustainability boxes and will save over 84 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year, compared with the standard building regulations.
